This guide provides general advice on how to mount your Maxi+ tracker on various objects and addresses the most common questions about mounting.
Does the product have to be visible to connect to the server?
No, the Maxi+ tracker is designed to remain out of sight. It can be mounted inside a car, boat engine, or other concealed locations. However, the GPS signal is more sensitive to obstructions than the mobile network signal. For instance, a GPS signal may not penetrate indoor spaces, garages, or tunnels. If your car is parked in an underground garage, the tracker will lose GPS signal and display the last known position just outside the garage. Once the car is moved out of the garage, the tracker will reconnect to the satellites and update its position.
Is the product waterproof?
Yes, Maxi+ is IP67-rated, meaning it is dustproof and waterproof and can be immersed in water. However, it should not be submerged for extended periods. Avoid permanent mounting in water-filled spaces; water resistance is intended as an extra protective layer.
Is the magnet strong?
Yes, the magnet is robust enough for permanent mounting. Ensure the mounting surface is clean and smooth to secure the product firmly.
Can I place the product in my boat or in a boat engine?
Yes, Maxi+ can be used on various tracking objects, including boats. Note that battery life might be reduced due to the product's motion sensor, which may incorrectly activate due to the boat's movements even when it is stationary. If placed on a boat we recommend to use the timed wake up feature with a safety zone. Then the device will wake up at a certain interval and when leaving 1 km radius it will start to report location in real time.
Can I hide the product in a container/toolbox/other thick metal container?
We generally advise against mounting Maxi+ in very thick metal containers. While normal vehicle metal parts typically do not cause signal issues outdoors, thick metal containers can severely interfere with GPS signals, resulting in incorrect or missing location data. It's best not to mount the tracker in such containers.
Important Signal Strength Information
Any material between the device and GPS satellites can shield the signal. Sometimes, you might get location data that is inaccurate by 50-100 meters due to weak signal strength. In such cases, adjust the device’s position for better satellite contact.
Important Information About Power Consumption
Maxi+ is configured to be energy-efficient, remaining active and reporting location only when in motion or at the set interval you have set to wake it up. The device remains active until it detects no movement for five consecutive minutes. Position the product to avoid false activations, such as in frequently bumped areas or on boats.
